Holiday Activities for Wheelchair-Bound Seniors
The Holiday season is here, and it’s that time of year to be with family and friends. There are plenty of activities to do around this time of year to get outside and enjoy the cooler weather, depending on the day here in Charleston.

Decorate Your Wheelchair
The first activity you can do to celebrate the holidays is to get festive and decorate your wheelchair. For example, if you celebrate Christmas during the holiday season you can use tinsel, paper snowflakes, and even lights to make your wheelchair festive. If you have crafty grandchildren, this might be a fun activity to do with them!
Bake and Decorate Cookies
Get your family and/or friends together to bake and decorate Christmas cookies. Since it's the season of giving you and your family can deliver the cookies to various places, such as local police or fire stations, neighbors, woman’s shelters, homeless shelters, doctors' offices, and any other places you can think of that will accept any homemade cookies.
H2 Attend a Holiday Show
Many things are going on around town for the holiday season, from Christmas parades to the
Festival of Lights, and holiday markets. Many churches around town will put on Christmas shows and recitals. Community centers will host
Senior Christmas Dinners. There are no shortages of events happening this holiday season around town.
Shop for Christmas Presents
The Christmas hustle and bustle of department stores, boutiques, and malls are quite enjoyable to many aging adults. Family caregivers and senior care providers can plan out which stores the senior wants to visit and accompany them as they shop for gifts and perhaps pay a visit to Santa Claus.
Craft a Holiday Ornament
Homemade gifts are meaningful when given by a loved one. They can also make for a fun activity alone or with family and friends. Holiday craft party perhaps?
Light Watching
Get a love one or two and go drive around town after it gets dark to look at everyone’s Christmas decorations. More than halfway through December everyone who is going to decorate will most
likely have their lights and decorations on their house and in their yard by then. There is something about all of the lights twinkling that just seems so magical.
